I never had good luck using 7800ctrl under Windows 2000, which is
essentially the same as XP under the hood. 7800ctrl needs direct
access to the parallel or serial port (depending on how you have your
7800 hooked up) and generally DOS apps won't be able to access those
ports. There are drivers that you can install in 2000/XP that will
allow direct hardware access, but I've sometimes had problems using
them as well.
My solution was to just setup a dual-boot system where I can boot up
Windows 98 as needed to use DOS software like 7800ctrl. I have also
created a DOS boot disk to do the same, and that works well (had to do
this on a laptop with Windows 2000 installed).
It would be nice if there was a Windows version of 7800ctrl. :)
