Well, we did it.

http://www.hardcoders.org/z26/z26_linux_work_20040416.tar.gz

This is a `proof of concept' release...

It's not quite perfect yet, but it does play games, with video,
sound, keyboard/mouse/joystick controls.

Currently, the sound emulation is inaccurate, and paddles don't seem
to work. However, if you have Linux joystick support, you *can* use
a gamepad/joystick to play joystick games.

We need testers...

- Linux support. We've only tested this code on 2 very similar Slackware
boxes and Knoppix 3.4. It would be nice to know how if it works on Red
Hat, Debian, etc.

- Windows support. We need to make sure the code compiles and works on
at least Linux and Windows 2000 and XP.

- Stelladaptor support, specifically in Linux. It may Just Work as-is,
or it may not. If you want to use the Stelladaptor (in either OS),
you need to have SDL version 1.2.7.

- ROM support. Any ROM that doesn't work in this version exactly the way
it does in the 2.12 release of Z26 for Windows, means there's something
wrong with the assembly code. I converted it from MASM to NASM syntax,
and Eckhard has already caught & fixed a few of my mistakes.

- FreeBSD support? (Hey, it should be a lot easier to port from Linux
to BSD than it was to port from Windows to Linux, right?)

Test results, bug reports, and patches should go to z26@xxxxxxxxxxx,
not to [stella] (we don't want to choke the list).
