I thought I found the answer to my question in the archives from a similar question asked by Adam Wozniak. http://www.biglist.com/lists/stella/archives/200404/msg00412.html
Reading through this thread sent me to investigate the Combat disassembly.
The same thing is done in Combat but the comments are labeled wrong. It says this stops the response from the joysticks but it doesn't. Later in the Combat code the GameOn variable is checked to see if the joystick routine should be skipped.
Does anyone know if SWBCNT has any use?
