Berzerk gets it's seed for the random number generator by reading INTIM at power-up for example. If the VCS was turned off for a longer time, INTIM will always read the same. But if you turn your VCS off and then on again, the RIOT timer will be at the same state as it was when you turned the console off. This is pretty random, since the RIOT timers count so fast.
Does this account for (at least some of) the weird behaviour some games exhibit when you `fry' them? I always thought it had to do with the RIOT RAM not being reset, but I hadn't even thought about the timers.
