You can't set the target for your output from within an input document or XSL stylesheet unless you resort to extensions functions (which are implemented in saxon, xt and xalan, AFAIK). In Saxon, for instance, you might have: <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0" xmlns:saxon="http://icl.com/saxon" extension-element-prefixes="saxon" exclude-result-prefixes="saxon"> <xsl:template match="image"> <saxon:output file="{@name}.{@extension}" method="text"> <xsl:value-of select="." /> </saxon:output> </xsl:template> </xsl:stylesheet> This code will obviously look different for the other processors. -- Warren Hedley XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
