Use:

<xsl:template match="/catalog/item">
        <xsl:apply-templates select="description"/>
</xsl:template>

<xsl:template match="description">
        <xsl:copy-of select="."/>
</xsl:template>

If I have an xml structure like this:

<catalog>

A nice shoe

</catalog>

and my xsl looks like this:

<xsl:template match="/catalog/item">
        <xsl:copy-of select="description"/>
</xsl:template>

my HTML output is:
A nice shoe

How can I output the html without the
tags? I wish to preserve the tags which may or may not be there.
