You may need to post some more context as what you posted looked OK so presumably the error is somewhere else. You don't actually need to apply templates. Rather than <xsl:apply-templates select=".//docBody" /> <xsl:template match="docBody"> <xsl:copy-of select="*" /> </xsl:template> You could do <xsl:copy-of select=".//docBody/*" /> But either should work. Note that in either case the * selects element children of docBody. If there might be character data there, use node() instead of *.
