But never use {} in XPath expressions (eg select, test or match attributes) they are only used in attribute value templates. <xsl:value-of select="@attributeName"/> gives you the value of an attribute called attributeName <xsl:value-of select="$attributeName"/> gives you the value of a variable/parameter called attributeName <xsl:copy-of select="$attributeName/@*"/> gives you all the attribute nodes in the node set stored in the variable called attributeName But whether or not any of those are what you want is immpossible to tell.
