Getting a little off-topic, but feel the need to rant... I just found out Brainbench certificates expire after 1 year. After that, I have to re-take the exam (and pay again, I assume). WHAT THE HELL??? - Eugene : -----Original Message----- : From: Kaganovich, Yevgeniy (Eugene) [mailto:YKaganovich@xxxxxxxx] : Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2001 3:48 PM : To: 'xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' : Subject: RE: [xsl] Brainbench XSL test and certification overall : : : Thanks for the pointer. I just took the test, got my master : level, have : something to put on the resume... But this test is up there : with some of the : worst ones I've taken. Out of the 40 questions, probably : about 20 either : didn't make any sense at all, or didn't have any right : answers, or had more : than one, and other 10 weren't relevant to XSL knowledge. : : Good luck :) : : - Eugene : : : -----Original Message----- : : From: Sergej Rinc [mailto:sergej@xxxxxxx] : : Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2001 1:05 PM : : To: xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx : : Subject: [xsl] Brainbench XSL test and certification overall : : : : : : Hi all, : : : : just wanted to point out that XSL certification test is : : still free at : : http://www.brainbench.com (online testing company). Their : : policy this year : : changed that first 500 test takers can now have a free test : : while later all : : must pay and thus tests are not free anymore. Two points here: : : : : - I've passed the test at Master level. I think all who : : regularly read and : : use knowledge spread in XSL mailing list can get around mark : : 4 (of 5, 4 is : : needed for Master level, 2,75 for regular) but the knowledge : : of specs is : : crucial or at least fast finding of an answer. Gee I like : : this in Europe so : : called American learning approch (important is know how to find the : : information not have to know all the information). : : So if you need a certification you can take this one - : : member registration : : is free if you are not yet Brainbench's member - but please : : be serious since : : every attempt is logged and number 500 is quickly gained ... From my : : experience if you take a test more than 4 times in 90 day : : period this will : : be noted in (your) public transcript - well, you could : : remember some of the : : questions ... you get the idea. : : : : - what do all think about such XSL test and certification : : overall? I think : : Brainbench's one is the first world-wide for XSL technologies : : and I for sure : : will probably get more perceived value in the eyes of my : : clients for having : : such certification. What about XSL classes (if they are : : available yet) at : : let say well known companies or at online learning centers? Do these : : certifications have any value for clients/customers? : : : : Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with Brainbench. : : : : Sergej Rinc, Certified Doc-To-Help Trainer : : Master XML, Master HTML 4.0, Master WAP : : Member, International Webmasters Association http://iwanet.org : : mailto:sergej@xxxxxxx, http://sergej.rinc.ws : : : : : : XSL-List info and archive: : http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list : : : : XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list : XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
