I for one think these two functions don't belong in XPath. This is only a draft... I think it would be much more useful if you made points like this in formal comments sent to the working group via the feedback mechanism identified in the document. There's otherwise a danger that people assume (a) that points made on this list will be considered by the working group, and (b) that responses made on this list by WG members represent a considered WG opinion.
