Subject: XSL-FO in the browser (Was: Re: [xsl] use cases for d-o-e) From: Jeni Tennison <jeni@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 18:34:22 +0000 |
Hi Wendell, > We have yet to see anything like FO in the browser. Would be nice, > wouldn't it? But we're all so used to HTML's display semantics that > we don't even notice anymore the way HTML lays us out on Procrustes' > bed. (Admittedly CSS is a big help these days.) We've yet to see anything like XSL-FO in HTML browsers, but there are some XSL-FO viewers that you can use like browsers: - Antenna House Formatter (http://www.antennahouse.com/) - XSmiles (http://www.xsmiles.org/) They can both get hold of XML source over the web, automatically transform to XSL-FO and display the results. XSmiles also makes an attempt to view HTML (though it doesn't manage CSS, unfortunately) and is worth looking at for the SMIL and XForms implementations.
