<fo:retrieve-marker retrieve-class-name="sexe-M" retrieve-position="first-including-carryover" retrieve-boundary="page"> M retrieve-marker element should be _empty_ it doesn't directly generate any text, it just gets replaced by the marker it retrieves. I don't think you want two different classes, you just want to use teh same class for both M and F, and you'll get which ever text is inside teh marker when you retrieve the first one. You might want to check whether fop implements markers, it's a while since I downloaded a copy..
