saxon 8.what? It was only recently (since the first CR publication) that
it was confirmed that these types woul dbe in the xs namespace so that
is only supported in the last 1 (or 2, can't remember) saxon releases.

I think the functionality is stable and can be used, it's  just the
namespace URI that changed, which unfortunately means that if you are
using an implementation of an older draft you need to check which URI it
used.
