I don't think I visualize anything, but when I was learning I 
certainly visualized the XPath tree. I even had dreams in which I 
climbed in and among the branches of the source tree, locating what I 
was looking for.

I have also sometimes thought that some day some genius chemist will 
implement XSLT as some kind of weird recombinant enzyme process. You 
would fill a test tube with a solution in which all your templates 
would be suspended (probably many times each), add a potion 
containing source document enzymes, and shake.

Parsing, "compiling" and serializing for such a processor would take 
significantly longer than processing the transform itself.

And of course, it would all be too tiny to see.
