(dsssl) PIs in Openjade transformations

Hi all,
I am wondering if there is a way to let processing instructions in
an SGML file unchanged when using the SGML/XML backend.
The purpose is to transform (SGML to SGML) a file before formatting it 
with the TeX backend.
Any hints ?
