But if you are going to use pdfTeX, you need the later versions, which will at least not fall over on that ectt1000 (thought thats a side issue). In general, please remember that pdfTeX is in an evolving state at present. Be prepared to have to spend some time updating your setup every few months while it settles down. Please, also, if you are interested in using JadeTeX, please consider patching Jade and installing the current JadeTeX (from http://www.tug.org/applications/jadetex).
