		I can generate an error with either (error) or
		(node-list-error).  Can I generate a warning?

	(debug "warning: you have 10 seconds to self destruct") ?

This is of course Jade specific. A portable, but expensive, method would
be to split processing into two passes, generating output in one and
emitting warnings in the other (an "analysis" stylesheet).
