docbook-stylesheets -- how to run tests?

Since the Norm's DocBook stylesheets package is entirely void of
makefiles (sniff), I don't really know how to run the stuff in
./tests.  Could you provide some clue?

In a related issue, the docbook documentation (as of 1.38b, and 1.39
on the web) still refers to stuff in doc/testdata, which isn't
actually distributed anywhere that I can see.
