One of our clients publishes journal articles that are intended to be a
complete record of research funded by a particular project. Since the
researchers have often also published elements of the research in other
journals, we often end up with sections that are a mashup of original material
and material previously published elsewhere (text recycling).

To handle the permissions for this, we attempt to provide information on
multiple copyrights in the <sec-meta> for that section. Unfortunately, JATS
allows only one <permissions> element in <sec-meta> (unlike, for example,
<figure> and <table-wrap>, which do allow multiple permissions).

Currently, we're tagging as follows:

<sec-meta>
        <permissions>
          <copyright-statement>Parts of this chapter are reproduced with
permission from Forsyth et al. Reprinted from Alzheimers
&amp; Dementia, 5, Forsyth K, Henderson C, Davis L, Singh Roy A, Dunk B,
Curnow E, et al., Assessment of need and practice for
assistive technology and telecare for people with dementia &#x2013; The ATTILA
(Assistive Technology and Telecare to maintain Independent Living At home for
people with dementia) trial, 420&#x2013;30, 2019, with permission from
Elsevier.</copyright-statement>
          <copyright-statement>Copyright &#xa9; 2021 Gathercole et
al. This work was produced by Gathercole et al.
under the terms of a commissioning contract issued by the Secretary of State
for Health and Social Care. This is an Open Access publication distributed

attribution the title, original author(s), the publication source &#x2013;
NIHR Journals Library, and the DOI of the publication must be
cited.</copyright-statement>
          <copyright-year>2019</copyright-year>
          <copyright-year>2021</copyright-year>
          <copyright-holder>Elsevier</copyright-holder>
          <copyright-holder>The authors</copyright-holder>
          <ali:free_to_read/>
          <license>
            <ali:license_ref>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

ense_ref>
<https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/%3C/ali:license_ref%3E>
          </license>
        </permissions>
 </sec-meta>

Because the children of <permissions> have to appear in a certain order, it's
hard to tell which information goes with which licence.

Does anyone else ever have multiple permissions in a single
element? If
so, how do you deal with it?

Best wishes

Rhiannon
