This is just a shot in the dark from the new kid on the block, but I am using a program called IADS, a free SGML online authoring/displaying tool available for downloading at http://iads.redstone.army.mil/. Supposedly it will support XML in the next release (2.5) due out in the next month. One of the most powerful features is the full word search by domains. You create the domains yourself in a list and just select the domain search instead of file search. Each file would have to have a minimal amount of SGML (or most likely XML in the next release) tagging added to make it accessable to the search engine. I will be out to Huntsville, AL in August to take a week-long Advanced IADS class and will be finding out at that time how much XML is being supported. I'll let you know if you're interested. I work directly with the developer--a surly dude, but a programmer with tech writing background--and he is really good. Not to mention, we all support this program with our taxes. If you have questions about IADS, I have produced a fully interactive 14,000 frame, 23,000 graphics electronic technical manual using it. I feel confident I could answer a lot of the questions you may have. I have built a sub-site for a client which takes a word document and converts it into an XML document which is then FTP'ed to the site. This happens once a day. Since we have rigourously set the formating of the word doc, we can then pass it through our style sheet without any problems. The previous day's version of the XML page is then put into an Archive directory (with a name of the form ddmmyyyy.xml) so that we can view at will any given day's content. Problem is, though, our client wants this to be searchable....going back a year (that's 15k x 365 = 3.67 M if you bundle it into one XML file - a little large). Any thoughts?
