Remember XSL _is_ XML, the first thing that happens is that it is parsed by an XML parser, and   is_ an entity reference to an undefined entity. You can either define the entity in your stylesheet by adding a <!DOCTYPE at the top of the file which includes an entity declaration, or more simply just refer to the character directly not by an entity reference,   David PS You'd have found this question (and this answer) already appears dozens of times in the archives of this list available at the web page at the URL at the bottom of every message to this list.
