Paul, I can't recall if MSXML can do this, but according to: XPath http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath#section-Node-Set-Functions XSL http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xslt#dt-attribute-value-template you should be able to do this: <xsl:element name="{name()}"/> since the name attr of the xsl:element is treated as an 'attribute value', you have to enclose the node name() function in {} Oh, it looks like there's an undocumented <xsl:node-name/> in the ie implementation, though I don't think it works in xsl:element H ----------------------------------------- G.
