imbedding javascript in a xsl:attribute

I would like to use javascript to determine the value of an attribute.  However,
the xsl processor does not support the xsl:eval tag.  has anyone ever run into
this problem, or have any suggestions?  or does anyone know what the most up to
date tag in the w3c supports imbedding javascript?
