My idea is to setup a bunch of XSL files for media="handheld" and have
title's set so that you can choose between different resolutions (how you
pick the title and show those stylesheets is implementation
dependant). Have the stylesheets cascade so that the work involved is
minimal (i.e. the stylesheets displaying the different resolutions only do
a small amount of the work).

Once you break down the task this way it won't seem so much of a pipe
dream.
