You can do this by using a recursive named template, e.g.

 <xsl:template name="filename">
   <xsl:param name="x"/>
   <xsl:choose>
     <xsl:when test="contains($x,'/')">
       <xsl:call-template name="filename">
         <xsl:with-param name="x" select="substring-after($x,'/')"/>
       </xsl:call-template>
     </xsl:when>
     <xsl:otherwise>
       <xsl:value-of select="$x"/>
     </xsl:otherwise>
   </xsl:choose>
 </xsl:template>

 and call it somehow like :
 <xsl:call-template name="filename">
  <xsl:with-param name="x" select="."/>
 </xsl:call-template>

I was almost sure this is a FAQ, i.e. somewhere in
http://freespace.virgin.net/b.pawson/xsl/xslfaq.html,
but I could not find it ?

Juliane.
