See 11.4 of the XSLT spec for information on setting up an XSLT stylesheet to look for parameters passed to it. Because it says "XSLT does not define the mechanism by which parameters are passed to the stylesheet," you'll have to check the XSLT processor that you're using to see how to actually pass the parameter value to the stylesheet. Processors that work from the command line offer some sort of command line option to do it.
