The best answer is to mark up the text using a subset of XHTML tags, using
proper XML encoding rules (e.g. always include an end tag, always put quotes
round attribute values). Then you will be using pure XML, and an
<xsl:copy-of> will enable you to copy the XHTML chunks straight into an
XHTML or HTML output file.
