and change

  <xsl:value-of select="."/>
 </xsl:attribute>
</xsl:for-each>

where

<xsl:variable name="l" select="'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'"/>
<xsl:variable name="u" select="'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ'"/>
