Yeh that's true but in XSLT 1.0 it always evaluates to true. I haven't thought it out (very much at all really) but that must be handy for fallback somewhere along the line. And it wouldn't be the first thing that has changed in v2. I don't know it just seemed comfortable somehow. > > But certainly, the way I'm leaning from this discussion is > towards some kind of model where you submit a string to > decomposition by means of a regexp and the decomposed pieces > are then supplied to some kind of XSLT template, one at a > time, for subsequent processing. Well I wouldn't like to see xslt become just another way of applying regexes (and it never would) but there feels like so much crossover in the way that some of these things are processed that xslt v2 could find a way of tying them together. If one has time that is ;-) Ciao Chris P.s. I'm not that bothered about the syntax as long as I don't have to type too much ;-) XML/XSL Portal http://www.bayes.co.uk/xml XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
