[xsl] variable in document XPath

Hi all -

I'm trying to do this without any luck:

<xsl:call-template name="nav">
	<xsl:with-param name="path" select="/some/path"/>
</xsl:call-template>


<xsl:template name="nav">
<xsl:for-each select="document('foo.xml')$path">
...
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>

Can a variable be placed in the XPath portion of the document() function?
