I am almost there.... :) But, still dealing with one more issue.
This template works great, except for <table> elements. This template has no effect on the xml file below.

an xml file like this has no effect on the <sub>.
<TABLE name="tableA" order="4">

<rows>
<col1>Testing tableA with col1 {371}</col1>
<col2>testing tableA with col<sub>2</sub>)</col2>
</rows>
</TABLE>
