You can convert an XHTML file into a trivial stylesheet by adding xsl:version="1.0" (and a namespace declaration) to the outermost <html> element. Then you can add logic to the parts of the document that are variable, to fetch information from the source XML file, by inserting instructions such as <xsl:value-of>. I refer to this in XSLT Programmer's Reference as a "fill in the blanks" stylesheet.
