it sees the link as a local reference try <a href="http://{normalize-space(.)}"> perhaps a solution where the url is checked for the existence of http:// or ftp:// or mailto: and if not appends it would be best. The jsp in which I am running this with is in the /jsp directory so it looks like it is just appending the yahoo.com to the end of my current directory.
