You have to figure out what the code should be in the web page. Once you get that working, then you can design your xslt code to re-create the code that works in web page. What yu want to do is probably easy, but I cannot understand what you wrote well enough to be sure. Usually, either CSS styles or a combination of CSS and javascript will do highlighting, depending on the browser and exactly what you want to do.
