Hi Preeti, you can use select="$firstValue", but it won't sort anything: The value of the variable is the same for all nodes in your for-each or apply-templates. In particular, the variable is not evaluated, i.e. it cannot contain an XPath to use for the sorting. On the other hand, order="{$ord}" would work as expected. Note the {}.
