The namespace is part of the name, so somewhere in your stylesheet (or copied from a source document) you are generating a table element in no-namespace and putting it in a document that has a default namespace of xhtml, so the system has to add xmlns="" so that the table element stays in no-namespace. The fix is to generate your table element in the xhtml namespace.
