>It sounds like you just need to use xsl:number you don't need to >explictly select all the equations. That's what I hoped. My xml document is first processed by other software that excludes inlineequations in tables and numbers the remaining inlineequations consecutively. I have to process the inlineequations exactly the same way to give the inlineequations the same number as given by the other software. It would have been much easier just to number it. Thanks. Peiyun
