I removed all the imports from your file to test it and it worked: ~ <img src="./php/chart_age.php?age1=30&age2=10&age3=30&age4=10&age5=20&age6=0&age7=0&age8=0">
Perhaps you are changing the context accidentally somewhere. I'd try to change the line <xsl:for-each select="ROOT"> to <xsl:for-each select="/ROOT"> to find the root element regardless of your context.
