Personal opinion, I like to see Page X of XXIII or Page 3 of 93 sometimes that's what you want (in which case, the second comment doesn't apply) but the first comment applies (individually) for each numbered unit: you have to make sure that you id the real end of each unit, and nothing floats past that (which you can't actually do in XSL). But other times the reason for having the page count has to do with constraints (perhaps financial) on the total number of pages.
