Hi,
          Just FYI,

I did as you said i.e changed saxon to xalan in the xslt you mailed and
reran and it still gives the error "Namespace for prefix 'yy' has not been
declared."

Is this a feature that saxon has but xalan doesn't?

       I have moved the xsd:schema inside the variable. But now it
  expects me to declare the prefixes for each namespace in the external
file.


why can't you just use the version I posted with but the saxon extension
namesace changed to xalan's?

Now you have an element inside the variable but not one in the result
tree so you can't do this
     <xsl:copy-of select="xalan:nodeset($rtf)/*/namespace::
as there is no element to hold the namespace nodes that you are copying.
