<b><xsl:value-of select="text()"/></b> In XSLT1 value-of produces the string value of the first node in document order and discards all later nodes. so text() selects all text nodes but value-of only uses the first. You coudl use copy-of instead then you would get all text nodes, but you'd get them all here (before you output any elements) <b><xsl:value-of select="embedded"/></b> ditto. This selects all embedded elemenst but only uses the first. You could use copy-of but then you would get all embedded elements grouped together.
