Subject: [xsl] Subject lines and replies to messages From: Mulberry Technologies List Owner <xsl-list-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2006 17:37:21 -0400 |
- Threaded discussions, which are created by replying to messages are very convenient for many readers.
- Some people subscribe to the digest version of the list, in which they get one message a day containing all of the postings for the previous 24 hours.
It is helpful if subscribers to the regular list REPLY when they are responding to a post, so that the discussion is threaded.
It is NOT helpful when subscribers to the digest version REPLY, because they don't have the individual message to reply to. When they REPLY, they end up with meaningless subject lines (the header from the digest) and the thread is broken anyway.
1. If you are a regular list subscriber, please REPLY to the message you are responding to.
2. If you are a digest subscriber, please paste the subject line of the message to which you are responding into your subject line.
3. If you want to criticize the list manners of someone on XSL-List, please send mail to the list owner (me) and I will pass it on if it seems reasonable.
Fussing at a subscriber for pasting in the subject header is not helpful; it leads to people replying to the digest in an effort to be cooperative. Then their messages have useless subject lines AND are disconnected from the thread.
