To be completely honest, I did not know either, but it was a very easy test to find out. I was a bit surprised that I found references stating that IE returns the pure text, because it really doesn't (or I messed up my test env. big time).

Too all that are listening in: I advice Sarissa if you do browser based transformations. That will save you quite some hassle (it unifies the interface) and works for all browsers that support XSLT.
