=)  There are several reasons what I choose to do it the way I've done
(none of which are probably very good =p ).  

I did it this way because emphasis nodes as well as para nodes show up
as children to many different parents and need to be handled in
different ways.  Being new and with no formal "training" to xsl, this
was what I was able to come up with; that at one point in time worked.
