hmm only this comes to mind:
<xsl:variable name="parts" select="for $x in tokenize(., ':') return
xs:integer($x)" as="xs:integer+"/>
<td colspan="{$parts[1] - ($parts[2], 0)[1]}"/>
What would you've done?
(I already consider the ($parts[2], 0)[1] a bit of a DC special :)
