Thanks Ken... you're right, adding the www made it work.

Unfortunately, this didn't help me much... as you might have guessed, my example code was a stripped down version of a bigger, messier "real world" code problem. And when I went back and looked at my real world problem, I discovered that I hadn't omitted the www there. So I'm still stuck, but I've at least eliminated the key-namespace conflict theory.

With that in mind, I'll take another long look at my code and see if that helps me determine the real problem.

Thanks-- Robert

Is there a reason why <xsl:key> would break when a namespace is added

Only because of a finger problem ... you have a typo ... don't kick yourself too hard when I tell you what it is.

All well and good. Now, I add a namespace to the input XML, so that
the first two lines read:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<FMPDSORESULT xmlns="";>
...and I make the appropriate changes in my XSLT, adding the prefixes
where I reference an element, so that my transformation now looks
like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="";
version="1.0" xmlns:fm="";

Your problem is that your data namespace has "www" and your stylesheet namespace doesn't.

I hope this helps.
