  Yes.  The way depends on your definition of "node."  You can use:
    $parent/count(node())
If you want to count child elements instead, use:
    $parent/count(*)

  If I understand correctly, you want all the dinstinct names of the
child element of an element?  Try:
    dinstinct-values(*/name(.))
