In XMl 1.0 you can not have a character 8 either literaly or via a character reference, so your file is not well formed (that is, it isn't XML) as it will generate a fatal error in an xml parser, it can't be read by any XML tool so you'll need to first correct the file editing it as plain text rather than XML to remove the error. > Do you know one which can remove  and other illegal chars from > the xml? regexp syntax depends a bit on the system you are using, but [\u0000-\u0008\u0000B\u0000C\u0000E-\u001F] probably matches all characters below 32 except 9 10 and 13.
