The postal authorities always have what they consider to be the "official" version of an address. I think it's pragmatism: that is the address they find best describes the location they have to deliver to.

Yep. It's a string.


The US government procurement database (SAM) first refused to register us because the address we supplied didn't match the legally-registered company address, and when we corrected that, they weren't able to register us because the address was too long.

Don't get me started on field lengths :-)
