One further thought, and to be clear I am not well informed on this
matter, and I think Michael Kay could probably comment on this better
than I can, but here goes...

I think I have heard on the grape-vine (conference talks?) that
Streaming in XSLT 3.0 is being considered for removal in XSLT 4.0. If
that is the case, I wondered if you were aware? Therefore, I also
wonder if perhaps it would make implementation simpler for Xalan to
target XSLT 4 instead of XSLT 3?
